Abstract :
The Surgery Department of Dr. Soetomo General Hospital (DSGH) in Surabaya is the highest revenue maker and DSGH is a type A hospital for the eastern Indonesia referral destination. The purpose of this research was to study the lag- and service- time of the Operating Room (OR) using Queue Model Theory as an effort to optimize OR utilization. The first step was to obtain surgery patient cluster of May 2004. There were 548 people ready for operations and 456 had undergone surgery, leaving 92 postponed or cancelled patients. The second step was to count the lag-time frequency and service–time of 456 operated patients. The fourth step was to apply Queue Model Theory based on the standard time of total surgery hour (103,588 minutes = 1,726.46 hours) with 68.7% OR utility level (31.3% non-utilized).In conclusion, with a 5% margin of error, the utility level of OR can be improved to 42.08 hours/month, equal to 2,104 hours/day. The actual service-time was 40.4% and with a 5% margin of error, the actual servicetime can be improved to 56.6 hours/month or 2.8 hours/day.
