Abstract :

Abstract Glipang is the traditional dancing in Pendil village at Probolinggo Regency. The art of dance is a result in the creation of power though thought which was later coined by someone who realized in gestures with the accompaniment of music folk who have a fascination for aesthetics as well as there is a value the sacredness in the dance. Discussing art not only as a system of symbols, but also art as a text, commonly called the textual and contextual approach. Textual approach or hermeneutik, can be used to examine about the meaning of the symbolic in terms of makeup, clothing, accessories, used musical instruments that accompany, and the meaning of each movement in the Glipang dance. The method in this research is using the qualitative approach, by conducting interviews to informants who became the next generation or the grandson of the creator of the Glipang dance. The results of this study that the Glimpang dance are combine of the Rudat act, Gethak  mask dancing, Hadrah, Samman, dan pencak silat. The philosophy of the Glipang dance is 'etembeng poteh matah, mongok tolang potiah' which means than the whites of the eyes, better bone white. Rather than shame, it is better to die.
