Blood glucose test between hexokinase with glucose oxidase and glucose dehydrogenase methods in diabetes mellitus

Abstract :

Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by chronic hyperglycemia that occurs because of abnormalities insulin secretion, insulin or both. Diabetes mellitus diagnosis is established on the basis of examination of blood glucose levels. The recommended blood glucose test is enzymatic method by hexokinase using venous blood plasma, while for monitoring the outcomes of treatment: blood glucose test can be done by rapid test using capillary blood. The purpose of this study was to know the test result of blood glucose between hexokinase method (ABX Pentra 400), glucose oxidase (StatStrip Xpress, Super Glucocard II) and glucose dehydrogenase methods (Accu-Chek Performa) by comparing them Cross sectional study was conducted on 50 samples of patient hospitalized at Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital Makassar. The blood glucose test were performed at the Departement of Clinical Pathology from June up to July 2012. Each plasma sample was tested using ABX Pentra 400, StatStrip Xpress, Super Glucocard II and Accu-Chek Performa. The data were analyzed using Kolmogorov Smirnov and Mann Whitney test. Based from this study was showed that there was no difference in blood the level using a related (glucose) oxidase (StatStrip Xpress, Super Glucocard II) and its dehydrogenase method (Accu-Chek Performa) compared with hexokinase method (ABX Pentra 400) with p value > 0.05. The result obtained in this study showed that StatStrip Xpress, Super Glucocard II and Accu-Chek Performa can be used as a rapid test for monitoring blood glucose in hospitalized patients. Penyakit Diabetes Melitus (DM) merupakan kelompok penyakit terkait metabolik tertentu dengan ciri hiperglikemia kronis yang terjadi karena kelainan sekresi insulin dan kerjanya, atau keduanya. Diagnosis DM ditetapkan atas dasar pemeriksaan kadar glukosa darah. Pemeriksaan glukosa darah yang dianjurkan adalah terkait dengan metode enzimatik heksokinase menggunakan bahan darah plasma vena. Hal tersebut dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui hasil mengobati, menguji glukosa darah kapiler dengan pengukur gula (glukometer) dan hasilnya didapatkan melalui pemantauan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hasil uji glukosa darah antara metode heksokinase, glukosa oksidase dan glukosa dehidrogenase dengan cara membandingkannya. Penelitian dilakukan secara potong silang di 50 sampel pasien yang dirawat inap di Rumah Sakit dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Makassar. Uji glukosa darah dilakukan di Laboratorium Patologi Klinik mulai bulan Juni−Juli 2012. Setiap sampel serum pasien diperiksa dengan metode: heksokinase (ABX pentra-400), yang terkait glukosa oksidase (StapStrip Xpress, Super Glucocard II) dan glukosa dehidrogenase (Accu-chek Performa). Data dianalisis menggunakan uji Mann Whitney. Hasil meneliti ini memperlihatkan bahwa tidak ada perbedaan bermakna kadar glukosa darah menggunakan metode: glukosa oksidase dan glukosa dehidrogenase dibandingkan dengan yang heksokinase, sehingga ketiga alat tersebut dapat digunakan sebagai cara menguji yang cepat untuk pemantauan pasien di rumah sakit.
