Abstract :

The high level of residual monomer content in acrylic resin can cause irritation of oral tissue. According by acrylic resin must be biocompatible. The purpose of this study is to know the cytotoxicity of the rapid heat polymerized acrylic resins with difference curing process on cultured BHK cells. The cyrcle specimens of 12 mm in diameter and 1 mm in thickness was cured for 20, 30 and 40 minutes at 1000 C. Fibroblast cells were grown in Eagle’s Minimum Essential Medium to be 2 X 105 cells/ml, then the cells were added to the samples in the plates and incubated at 370 C. After 48 hours, the cytotoxic effect was determined by direct cell number count using microscope and a hemocytometer. The results indicated that more longer the curing cycles of a rapid heat polymerized acrylic resins more higher the cell viability, and the lower the cytotoxic effect. It could be concluded that the curing cycles of the resins for 20, 30, 40 were not toxic.
