Author :

      Abstract :

Various foreign bodies can lodge in oesophagus either in the normal swallowing or accidentally is quite common. The incidence of denture as a foreign body increase in the last few years. Generally it can be taken out by oesophagoscopy technique. Extraordinary denture foreign body in oesophagus is eventually difficult to be taken out in usual way. In such case an external approach like oesophagotomy might be needed. A case of a denture swallowed as a foreign body in esophagus in a 29 years old male is reported. Extraction of denture by oesophagoscopy was failed; therefore combined approach was then performed. Oesophagoscopy was done in usual way to identify the location of foreign body. A forceps was than inserted to grasp and fixed the denture in its location. Incision was made in the anterior border of sternocleidomastoideus muscle in toward the location of the denture. This combination technique had done successfully. Hoarseness occurred after surgery might due to vocal cord paresis, but two weeks after surgery the patient recovered completely.
