Abstract :
Pembarong is a reog dancer who bites a piece of wood in his mouth to support a quite big and heavy burden as an accessory. In the other hand, maximum bite force can influence facial morphology. So, this study was done to know facial height differences between pembarong and non pembarong among Reog Ponorogo dancers. This study was involving 100 subjects, which were divided into two groups: pembarong and non pembarong (control group). Subject’s criteria were: male, 20-40 years of age, Javanese with normal face, has complete teeth (except the third molar), and never got a treatment of dentomaxillofacial anomaly. Subjects of group one should have become pembarong at least five years with frequency of exercise at least one a week. Subject was sitting on the chair with upright head, straight look, and then anterior and posterior facial height was measured. Data were analysed with pooled t test (α = 0,05). The result showed that there were significant anterior facial height differences between pembarong and non pembarong but there were not significant differences in the posterior facial height. It concluded that pembarong’s anterior facial height was lower than non pembarong but posterior facial height of booth groups was relatively the same.
