Abstract :

Background: Knowledge about the spectrophotometry method on determination of fluoride in children and adult toothpaste which is sold in the community is still very low. Purpose: The purposes of this research were to know which method was suitable for the digestion of sample of children and adult toothpaste and to find out the accuracy, precision, linearity, and stability of the method concerning to the measurement of flouride content in children and adult toothpaste. Methods: The digestion method which is suitable for the sample of children and adult toothpaste determined by the comparison between 3 methods of digestion and the method of validation concerning about the measurement are the maximum wavelength, standart curve, accuracy test, precision test, and stability test. Results: Result shows that the method of sample extraction of children and adult toothpaste is by using the HNO3 concentrated digestion method (3rd method). While the method of validation show that SPADNS reach the acceptable accuracy. Precision has the RSD ≤ 2.00%. Furthermore the stability test show that the measurement of fluoride in the range of not more than 2 hours is still reliable. Conclusion: Method on determination of fluoride in children and adult toothpaste was suitable by using spectrophotometer (UV-Vis Mini Shimadzu U-1240).
