      Abstract :

Indonesian green tea has an antibacterial effect. Streptococcus viridans are the predominant bacteria in pulpitis irreversible and periapical lesion. This study was to evaluate an antibacterial effect of Indonesian green tea against Streptococcus viridans. The research was conducted to determine the minimal concentration (MIC) of Indonesian green tea that can inhibit the growth of Streptococcus viridans. Streptococcus viridans were taken from the root canal of tooth of the patient who visited Conservation Clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry Airlangga University Surabaya. A serial dilution method of NCCLS (1985) was used to determine the minimal inhibitory concentration of Indonesian green tea to Streptococcus viridans. The statistical analysis using a two ways analysis of variance showed that the number of Streptococcus viridans decreased significantly in 4% concentration with contact time of one minute of Indonesian green tea.
