Abstract :

Background: Abundant researches had been conducted based on the clinical and histopahological pathogenesis of aggresive periodontitis. Nevertheless, there were still few researches which based on molecular biology, and especially related to gene polymorphism. Purpose: This study was done based on IL-1A (nt4845) gene polymorphism in Aggressive Periodontitis patients. This study was expected to be useful as an indicator for early detection, prevention and management of aggressive periodontitis patients. Methods: Data were obtained from a case control study of 37 patients with aggressive periodontitis and 34 patients with chronic periodontitis. The IL-1A (nt4845) TG gene polymorphism was detected with PCR-RFLP technique. Data were obtained from a case control study of 37 aggressive periodontitis patients and 34 chronic periodontitis patients in RSGMP clinic, Faculty of Dentistry, Airlangga University. Results: Homozygout allele 2 polymorphism was not found in all samples, only allele 1 and allele 1+2 which affect Aggressive Periodontitis patients. Conclusion: Base on our data that there was no significant association between IL-1A (nt4845) gene polymorphism and aggressive periodontitis and chronic periodontitis.
