Abstract :

An experimental study has been carried out on the effect of temperature and storage time of composite resin on the residual monomer. Composite resin storaged under in certain temperatures and time undergoes shemical structure change (decomposition) and decreases its physical and mechanical properties, this material can not be used as filling material. This is caused by the decomposition of composite resin component, such as dimethacrylate, benzoyl peroxide and tertiary amine by heat and light; for example in benzoyl peroxide the bond connecting the central oxygen atoms is easily broken, thereby yielding free radicals. The decomposition of benzoyl peroxide into free radicals will increase residual monomer. In this study of chemically composite resin, storage treatment is carried out at 4 C, 32 C and 45 C for 1 month, 2 month, 3 month, and quantitive analysis for and residual monomer. The results of the statistical analysis using Anove, and HSD test, are as follows: an invrease of temperature and storage time of composite resin eill increase residual monomer.
