Abstract :

Acrylic resin is the most commonly used material for dentures, and the rapid heat cured resin of which has curing time of twenty minutes only at 1000 C has recently been developed, and the curing time of this material was only twenty minutes at 1000 C. The purpose of this study is to know the effect of curing cycles of rapid heat cured resin on residual monomer content. Twenty four rectangular specimens of 65 mm length, 10 mm width 2.5 mm in thickness are made and divided into four groups. The first is cured for ten minutes, the second is cured for twenty minutes, the third is cured for thirty minutes and the fourth is cured for forty minutes. All of them are cured at 1000 C. The residual monomer content is determined using Gas Chromatography. The results of the statistical analyses using one way Anova and HSD test show that there is the significance difference in the residual monomer content (p < 0.05). The mean of residual monomer content of polymerized specimens are 5.4%; 1.9%; 0.8%. It means that the longer the curing cycles the lower the residual monomer content in this study.
