      Abstract :

The study was done to know the relationship between mesiodistal width and distal movement of maxillary canines in first premolar extraction cases. The orthodontic removable appliance with 140 gram finger springs force was used to move the canine distally. Fifteen subjects were selected with certain criteria: 20-25 years of age, Javanese, first premolar extraction cases, no entopic canine, and never got any orthodontic treatment. Finger spring’s force was measured by Stress and Tension Gouge from Dontrik. The force was corrected once a week during treatment. Mesiodistal canine width was measured by Mitutoyo’s Sliding Caliper. Distal movement was measured by comparing printed models before and after 8 weeks treatment. Data was analyzed by Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation. The results showed that there was a relationship between mesiodistal width and distal movement of maxillary canine, and the wider mesiodistal canine width, distal movement is fewer.
