Acute toxicity studies of ganoderma lucidum
Author :
Abstract :
Studies on acute toxicity of Ganoderma lucidum from fruit body, mycelium, or mixture (ratio 220 : 450) were done. Ganoderma lucidum powder has dry weight of 1 : 20 of its wet weight. The objective of this study was to determine LD50 of Ganoderma lucidum in albino wistar rat, guinea pig, and mongrel dog, from which the result was converted to that of rat to match the toxicity classification of AIHA (American Industrial Hygiene Association). This study demonstrated that Ganoderma lucidum fruit body powder was classified to be practically non toxic (LD50 > 5 g/kgBW), and so was the mixture of Ganoderma lucidum fruit body and mycelium powder, while Ganoderma lucidum mycelium powder was classified to be relatively harmless (LD50 > 15 g/kgBW).
