Abstract :
A bacteriological study have been conducted on diarrheal stool of pediatric and adult patients with acute and chronic diarrhea who sought for medical treatment to general physicians or internal medicine practitioners during the period from March 1994 to December 1998. Stool samples were examined for Vibrio, Aeromonas, Salmonella, Shigella, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella oxytoca. One loopful of ten fold dilution of stool samples in sterile normal saline solution was streaked onto TCBS, SS, and modified Drigalsky medium. Identifications were made mainly by biochemical reactions. Antibiotics susceptibility test were performed by diffusion method. This study found that 76.9% of isolates were DEC while 10.3% and 12.8% of isolates were Salmonella and Shigella, respectively. Most of DEC isolates were resistant to ampicillin and Gentamicin; Ofloxacin and Cefotaxime show good activity against these isolates
