Abstract :

The  research  aims  to  know  the  tendency  of  leadership  style  of  academic  structural  officers  in  a  Private University of X in Gresik. Leadership style is defined as behaviour pattern designed to integrate the target of individual organization with a purpose to reach a certain target of leadership. Leadership style  is  reffered to Blake and Mouton of Managerial of Grid concept  (1964).  Leadership  style  has two dimension,  orientation  toward  production  and  toward  relation  with  it's  followers.  This  study  is quantitative descriptive study which measure one variable. Data was collected by using Managerial of Grid's scale which was created by researcher . The instrument of measurement was used logical validity , with reliability coefficient KR-20 equal to 0,8. The result showed that 9 persons ( 69%) used orientation  of  production  leadership  style,  3  persons  (  23%)  showed  orientation  of  relation  with followers and  1  person  (8%)  showed  balance  leadership  style  orientation.  The  result  also  showed some  behavior  of  leadership  which  need  to  be  developed  by  the  academic  structural  officers  as  follow :a)  maintaining  self  esteem  towards  followers  in  job/activity  relation;  b)  maintaining  self-commitment  to  reach  organization  goals;  c)  prioritizing  the  quality  of  decisions  and  policies.
