The effect of participation in “paguyuban sehat kencing manis” for type 2 diabetics

Abstract :

ABSTRACT “Paguyuban Sehat Kencing Manis (PSKM)” is an associations of people with Diabetes in Mojoagung Public Health Center, Jombang that existence of it is expected to help improve the knowledge of people with Diabetes and helps control Diabetes Mellitus (DM). This research was conducted to learn effect of participation of people with type 2 DM in PSKM toward the knowledge and control of Type 2 DM in Mojoagung Public Health Center, Jombang. This research using retrospective cohort study design. Exposed population was all patients with type 2 DM registered in PSKM become active members with a minimum 75% attendance in the past year. Unexposed population was all patients with type 2 DM who visited Mojoagung Public Health Center and isn’t member of PSKM. The number of respondents were 33 respondents. The exposed group sample drawn from the overall population, while the unexposed group sample were taken by systematic random sampling. Variables studied were characteristics and participation of people with type 2 DM in PSKM. The results showed that there is no significant effect between characteristics of respondents against knowledge of people with type 2 DM and control of type 2 DM (Random Blood Glucose and blood pressure), there is significant effect of participation in PSKM toward knowledge of type 2 DM patients (p = 0.019), Exp(B) 14.444, and there is no significant effect between participation in PSKM against control of Random Blood Glucose (p = 0.323) and blood pressure (p = 0.460).
