The relationship between metabolic syndrome and life symptoms style with microvascular complications

Abstract :

ABSTRACT Diabetes mellitus is a degenerative disease which increasing prevalence in every year and has been ranked fourth in the world in 2003. Metabolic syndrome is a collection of body malfunction as a result of modern lifestyles that lead to unhealthy living habits. Type 2 diabetes patients who had metabolic syndrome can lead to symptoms of microvascular complications. This research held to determine metabolic syndrome and lifestyles lead to symptoms of microvaskuler complications in type 2 diabetic patients. Research type was analytical study use cross-sectional design. Questionnaires were administered to 67 respondents by simple random sampling. The dependent variable in this study was symptom of microvascular complications. The independent variables were age, gender, level of education, occupation, income, family history of diabetes mellitus, exercise habits, smoking habits, and metabolic syndrome. Data analyzed use Chi Square test. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome in this study was 71.6%. Respondents who had irregular exercise habits as many as 89.6% and 61.2% of respondents categorized as non-smokers. Results of the analysis showed significant of the relationship between exercise habits and symptoms of microvascular complications, p = 0.021 means p < α (0.05) and the relationship between metabolic syndrome and symptoms of micro vascular complications, p = 0.000 means p < α (0,05). The conclusion can be drawn, there are metabolic syndrome and lifestyle can affect to risk of micro vascular complications symptoms in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Having Bad lifestyle on a person prone to metabolic syndrome and microvascular complications affect the occurrence of symptoms.   Keywords: type 2 diabetes mellitus, lifestyle, symptoms of microvascular complications, metabolic syndrome
