Abstract :
ABSTRACT Tenth grade students of Dr Soetomo Surabaya have diverse information needs according to their required information.The information needs can ideally unanswered by high school of Dr. Soetomo library, but in fact the library still lacking to fulfill the information needed of tenth grade student. it identified by the level of use collection at the library is very low. To overcome the problem in senior high school of Dr. Soetomo library, the librarian must be sensitive in identifying the information needed especially tenth grade student as a reference for the procurement of library collection by assessing information needs. That problem attract researcher to examine the assessment of the information needs of tenth grade students in senior high school of Dr. Soetomo Surabaya. Researchers used the concept by David Nicholas to describe the information needs of tenth grade student. This study uses a descriptive quantitative method with purposive sampling technique as a method of sampling. Total respondents 100 respondents were chosen according to the needs of research. The result of this study that 32% of tenth grade student access entertainment information topics, that 57% of tenth grade student requires about what the book is the fact for the process of fulfilling the information requirements. The Benefit can be felt if the information needs met and that the tenth grade student choose the information previously lacking in taste to satisfy the needs of 59%.In accessing information tenth grade student. Keyword : assessment of information, tenth grade student, information need ABSTRAK Siswa kelas X SMA Dr.Soetomo Surabaya memiliki kebutuhan informasi yang beragam sesuai dengan informasi yang dibutuhkan. Kebutuhan informasi tersebut idealnya dapat terjawabkan oleh Perpustakaan SMA Dr. Soetomo Surabaya, Namun pada kenyataannya Perpustakaan SMA Dr. Soetomo masih kurang dalam memenuhi kebutuhan informasi siswa kelas X SMA Dr.Soetomo Surabaya dengan teridentifikasinnya tingkat keterpakaian koleksi di Perpustakaan SMA Dr. Soetomo Surabaya sangat rendah. Dalam menyikapi permasalahan di Perpustakaan SMA Dr. Soetomo Surabaya di tuntut untuk peka dalam mengenal kebutuhan informasi siswa terutama siswa kelas X sebagai acuan adanya pengadaan koleksi perpustakaan yaitu dengan melakukan penilaian kebutuhanI informasi. Fenomena tersebut tertarik untuk peneliti teliti mengenai penilaian kebutuhan informasi siswa kelas X SMA Dr. Soetomo Surabaya. Peneliti menggunakan konsep oleh David Nicholas untuk menggambarkan kebutuhan informasi siswa kelas X SMA Dr. Soetomo. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif deskripstif dengan teknik purposive sampling sebagai metode pengambilan sampel. Jumlah responden sebanyak 100 responden yang terpilih sesuai dengan kebutuhan penelitian. Hasil dari penelitian ini bahwa 32% siswa kelas X SMA Dr. Soetomo mengakses topik informasi hiburan. Diketahui pula bahwa 57% siswa kelas X SMA Dr. Soetomo memerlukan tentang apa buku tersebut fakta untuk proses memenuhi proses kebutuhan informasi. Manfaat yang di rasakan jika kebutuhan informasi terpenuhi yaitu siswa kelas X SMA Dr. Soetomo memilih informasi yang sebelumnnya di rasa kurang memuaskan kebutuhan sebesar 59%. Dalam mengakses informasi siswa kelas X SMA Dr. Soetomo menggunakan informasi elektronik sebesar 67% mengaku memilih alasan mengakses informasi lebih mudah.
