Abstract :
Pilkada (direct election for local government heads) had created hopes, that some of them might rise some chalenges and biases. This research attempted to delineate the features of power relation in the performance of day-to-day Indonesia’s provincial government in the post Pilkada (direct election for local government heads). In so doing, a fieldwork was undertaken in Gorontalo. It might be argued that the important meaning of a direct election system in the effort to actualize a democratic governing system was less relevant in explaining the reality of a day-to-day power relation in Gorontalo province. Research findings strongly indicated that the Pilkada process itself seems to have likely been dominated by political and business collusion, as well as patrimonial and patron-client practices. This circumstance, then, would surely carry a number of implications toward the performance of a day-to-day local governance in the post pilkada. Amongst other things were the emerging of oligarchy and the development of so called shadow state and informal economy practices.
