Abstract :
Differences in body proportion is closely related to the status of socioeconomic, because the growth of the lower limb is affected by nutrition intake during childhood. This research aimed to study the differences in body proportion between Javanese in Malang and Cape Coloured in South Africa, because they both has Asian blood, mixture with the local people in the past. Anthropometric measurements were conducted in 891 Javanese boys, 1175 Javanese girls, 292 high socio-economic status Cape Coloured boys, 282 low socio-economic status Cape Coloured boys, 330 high socio-economic status Cape Coloured girls, and 289 high socio-economic status Cape Coloured girls. The anthropometric measurements were height, trunk length, lower limb length, and shoulder breadth. The results showed that the ancestry/ ethnic groups signified the differences in body proportion. Socio-economic differences was not the only factor affecting the differences in body proportion.
