Abstract :

The number of democratic states had increased recently. At least, from 1974 to 1990 more than thirty countries were in transition towards democracy. This paper aimed to explain the relationship between demographic variables with the variables of democracy. This research used the comparative method using quantitative analysis to answer how far the influence of fertility level for the democracy in a country. this research used the merging of two theories, ie. demographic transition theory that involved the influence of economic conditions on democracy. This research used the concept of polyarchy democracy. Vanhanen Democracy Index and the Freedom House Index were used as indicators of Polyarchy Democracy tested by Demographic Indicators. Total Fertility Rate (TFR) was used as an indicator of the total fertility rate in the country's population. The result of this study proved that the higher the fertility level of a country's total population, the lower the level of its democracy.
