Abstract :

The change in the cacao farmers in Lilirilau district in Soppeng Regency was caused by several causes that happened in the past, especially during the Era of  the New Order. This study aims: (1) describe the dynamic development of the cocoa crop in district Lilirilau, Soppeng, and (2) explain changes in social interaction behind the development of the cocoa crop. This research was designed using a qualitative approach. The method used is a case study method. His case is (1) the development of cocoa trees in the district Lilirilau, Soppeng, and (2) changes in social interaction. Data obtained through participating observation, documentation, field notes and in-depth interviews. Data collected were analyzed with analysis of interpretation. The results showed that: (1) shifting crop farming with various types (multy crops) into a single crop (single crop) brought many changes among the socio-economic life of the peasant communities in the district Lilirilau, Soppeng, (2) interaction within the farming community may cause the occurrence of some social relations, among others: the relationship with labor unions, relations with the government in terms of order, contribution, and relationship with the market, especially in terms of distribution of production, (3) the transition to cocoa crop, in the system agriculture a form ecology able to increase balance value environment system highlands area agriculture.
