Abstract :
There are three significant aspects of China’s policy about Uyghurs: identity, natural resources and geography. Uyghur revivalism in Xinjiang province has been one of China’s conundrum for more than one century. The wish of its people to establish an independent state has been phisically subdued by the Beijing and Beijing has denied the right of self-determination that has been promised for this province since 1950s. Yet, the dreams for freedom keeps alive and sporadically the Uyghurists continue to struggle. In the midst of China’s hunt for energy, the Uyghurists and Xinjiang province play a strategic meaning for the future of China. The country’s dependence on oil prompts Beijing to change its assimilationist strategy toward this province. Hence by no means the Uyghurs’ demand calmed
