Abstract :
This study was aimed at evaluating the potential effect of ethalnolic extract of celery (Apium graveolens) on the diameter of seminiferous tubules and the quantity of spermatogenic cells in male mice (Mus musculus). The method used to make the extract celery (Apium graveolens) in this study was maceration with ethanol. Twenty male mice (Mus musculus) were adapted for one week and divided into four groups using simple random sample system; P0 (negative control) was given solvent of CMC Na 0,5%, P1 was given 49,53 mg/kg body weight of ethanolic extract of celery (Apium graveolens), P2 was given 59,5 mg/kg body weight of ethanolic extract of celery (Apium graveolens), P3 was given 67,06 mg/kg body weight of ethanolic extract of celery (Apium graveolens). The treatsments were administered by oral gavage for fourteen consencutive days. The 15nd day, mice (Mus musculus) terminated by euthanasia using chloroform. The diameter of seminiferous tubules was observed microscopically at 100x magnification and assisted by Image Raster. The quantity of spermatogenic cells were observed microscopically at 400x magnification. The data were analyzed by Analysis of Variance Test and continued by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test. The result showed that ethanolic extract of celery (Apium graveoles) could not decrease the diameter of seminiferous tubules and could not decrease the quantity of spermatogenic cells significantly
