Abstract :
Postnatal depression is psychiatric illness that affects 8-23% of women in the postnatal period. It impairs the woman’s ability to function in her many roles and has also shown to increase her child’s risk of later emotional, cognitive and social problems. A number of 434 samples (random) were obtained from postnatal mothers admitted to three hospitals in Surabaya. The rate of postnatal depression in three hospitals was 22%. Range of Depression (EPDS Score) in three hospitals was mostly between 10-14 (81-83%) EPDS Score is normal when the score is less than 10.
