      Abstract :

Deciduous teeth are important for the growth and development of a child’s mental and physical, either his body as a whole or his oral cavity locally. There are many factors, both systemic and local, which influence the eruption time of a child’s deciduous teeth. Among those, nutrient intakes during pregnancy and pre-eruption period are the two most important and breast milk is the main source of nutrient with an excellent quantitative and qualitative composition, required for the growth and development of a child during their infancy. The objective of this study was to find out the differences of deciduous teeth eruption time on infants given breast milk and those not given breast milk. A total population of 138 infants, male and female, was found in the service area of Nogosari Primary Health Center, Rambipuji, Jember district, East Java, Indonesia. They were classified into four groups: A (infants with good nutrition and breast milk intake), B (infants with good nutrition but without breast milk intake), C (infants with bad nutrition but with breast milk intake), and D (infants with bad nutrition and without breast milk intake). Then, the eruption times of their deciduous teeth (lower deciduous and central incisive) were observed and the data obtained were statistically analyzed by using one way ANOVA and LSD test ( = 0.05). The results showed that there was no significant difference among group A, B, C, but there was a significant difference between D and other groups.
