Abstract :
Poverty is one of the problems in the socio-economic development in the cityof Surabaya. Therefore, efforts to eradicate poverty became one of thepriorities of economic development. The levels of poverty that causes many ofthe female population participate in labor market to reduce poverty throughwork. This paper aims (1) to find out the role of female education on earningsin the family in Surabaya and (2) to identify educational strategies should bedeveloped for women in the economic strengthening of the family. Toovercome the problem of poverty, there are several strategies to reducepoverty levels. One strategy to reduce poverty is through education.Education strategy can be through formal and non-formal education.Preschool education and compulsory education is nine years in the majors forwomen residents who are still of school age. Then for the population ofwomen who have gone too far do not accidentally drop out of school are giveninformal education strategies with the goal that they have special expertiseso that they can have access to the labor market (activity and can increaseincome in the family) even though they have no formal education.
