Abstract :

ABSTRACT In the health promotion field, Short Messaging Service (SMS) feature of the cellular technology can be use optimally as an alternative health promotion program media. The objective of this research was to understand the effectivity of SMS used as a health promotion media, in the purpose of increasing knowledge and influencing attitude change of adolescent related with abortion problem. It was a quasi experimental research based on quantitative approach using randomized pretest posttest design with control group. This research held on June to July 2009, toward 30 respondent of experiment group with intervention (SMPN 26 Surabaya) and 30 respondent of control group without intervention (SMPN 20 Surabaya). As an intervention was a transferring health information of abortion, which designed and sent through SMS facility of the cellphone owned by respondent. The result of this research showed, there was an increase on both of knowledge variable (38,9%) and attitude variable (6,6%) for experiment group. Otherwise, for control group an increase occured only on knowledge variable (1,6%), and show a decrease on attitude variable (1,1%). This mean the use of SMS media had been proofed effectively to increasing knowledge, but less effectively to influencing attitude change of the respondent related with abortion. To strenghten the result of this research, it really necessary to reanalyse through more same kind of studies developed with other health information material and for a different target.
