Abstract :

This research focus on isolation and identification of terpenoid fron n-hexane fraction of M. crenata Presl. leaves. M. crenata Presl. leaves was collected from Desa Kendung, Kecamatan Benowo Surabaya. The dried leaves was extracted with ethanol 96%. From this extract, a terpenoid compound was isolated. Structure identification of the isolated compound was performed by IR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. The IR data showed that isolated compound has hydroxy, alkene and methyl group. The 1H-NMR spectrum exhibited signals at δH 4.70 and 4.65 ppm corresponding to a terminal alkene. There were signal at δH 3.63 ppm and 3.27 ppm corresponding to a hydroxy methylene and a hydroxy methyne, respectively. There are geminal dimethyl groups observed at δH 1.02 and 1.00 ppm, while a cyclopropane suggested from signals at δH 0.54 and 0.32 ppm. 1H-NMR data comparison of the isolated compound to literature data showed that the structure of the isolated compound was similar to 24-methylenecycloartanol with a hydroxy methylene group
