Abstract :
The article aims to revisit factors led to the conflicting relations between the US and the Soviet Union during the Cold War period which resulted in the end of Communism in the Soviet Union. International politics since 1945 marked by the rivalry of the two superpowers, the US and the Soviet Union. This situation prolonged until the end of 1990s. During the time the US and Soviet Union involved in many proxy wars in several third (world) countries. The end of the Cold War had begun when Gorbachev was elected to be the Soviet president. His vision on the Soviet political modernization and economic reform brought profound changes in the country. Gorbachev’s extreme transformation reflected the victory of liberalism, and thus the ‘end of history’.
