Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the use of Citrate-Phosphate-Dextrose (CPD) in dogs with blood storage on blood PCV values. This study used nine healthy dogs. Each blood dog sample was collected with CPD as anticoagulant and preservative. The PCV value was examined before and after 21 days storing. Furthermore, blood samples were stored (21 days) and thereafter performed PCV values calculated back for presence or absence of change in PCV values. This study used pre and post test design. Data were analyzed by paired comparison t test. The results showed significant difference (p<0.05) in PCV values between blood samples stored with CPD before and after storage. That means CPD anticoagulant used in the blood storage does give effect to change the PCV values, however all of blood samples were in normal range and still fit for use in blood transfusion.
