Abstract :

Objective: To report a case of limbal stem transplantation in limbal stem cell deficiency patient after Steven Johnson Syndrome. Method: Case report. A 42 years old female came to outpatient clinic with blurred vision in her both eyes. The patient actually have had blurred vision after she suffered from Steven Johnson Syndrome (SJS) 24 years ago. She also complained about tearing, pain and sandy feeling in her eyes. She already underwent symblepharectomy and repair enteropion in both eyes one year ago. Examination revealed visual acuity one meter finger counting in both eyes. There was ectropion in her right eye. There were also trichiasis, symblepharon, and corneal conjunctivalization with neovascularization in both eyes. All of these sign due to limbal stem cell deficiency. The patient underwent limbal stem cell transplantation in her right eye with donor from her son. Result: Two weeks after transplantation, visual acuity in her right eye was 5/40. After six weeks follow up visual acuity became 5/20, corneal conjunctivalization dissapeared, and cornea became clearer than before. Conclusion: Limbal stem cell deficiency in patient after Steven Johnson Syndrome with conjunctivalization can be corrected with limbal stem cell transplantation.
