Abstract :
In aviation, there are many problems that must be faced by aviators, one of which is height. Effect of changes in altitude can causephysiological disorders, such as hypoxia, where oxygen levels in the decreases, while hypoxia itself results in many disturbances of thebody. One of these disturbances is visual disturbance. The causes of reduced visual function may be due to an increase in intraocularpressure, which can affect or cause changes in visual capability, which, to some extent, may affect the performance the aircraft’s crews. To determine the effect of altitude elevation exposure to changes in IOP in Air Force pilot candidates. The research was conducted at theDepartment of Aerophysiology, Lakespra Saryanto, Indonesian Air Force, Jakarta. The samples were taken with total sample. Researchsubjects were prospective Air Force pilots aged 19–23 years, as many as 49 persons. Conducted using Tonopen-XL instrument thatmeasures IOP in pre-chamber, durante chamber in altitudes of 8000 feet and 18,000 feet, and post-chamber. It subsequently analyzesthe influence of those altitudes to changes in IOP that occurred in the Air Force pilot candidates. From 49 persons correlation testand analysis to compare the results of IOP in pre chamber, durante chamber in 8,000 feet and 18,000 feet, and post-chamber, and alsobetween height and O2 saturation revealed significant differences in each variable, which indicated p = 0.000 where p < 0.05. Thehigher the altitude, the less the oxygen saturation, and the higher the altitude, the more the TIO increases. There is strong correlationin measuring IOP in pre chamber, durante chamber in 8,000 feet and 18,000 feet, and post-chamber, and also between height andO2 saturation revealed significant differences in each variable. The higher the altitude, the less the oxygen saturation, and the higherthe altitude, the more the TIO increases.
