Abstract :

The objective of the study is to evaluate patient's self-reported visual disability resulting from glaucoma by means of a questionnaire, to measure the severity of visual field loss in glaucoma patients, and to assess the relationship between objective measures ofvisual function (binocular perimetric mean deviation (MD) values) and patients' perception of their vision-related quality of life. This was an analytic observational cross sectional study conducted in March–April 2010 in Outpatient Eye Clinic Dr. Soetomo General Hospital. Twenty patients were randomly selected, and underwent a comprehensive clinical examination, Humphrey perimetry examination (binocular perimetric mean deviation (MD) values) and completed the Glaucoma Quality of Life-15 Questionnaire, then based on the severity of visual field loss were classified into three groups, with early visual field loss (n = 4), moderate visual field loss (n = 4), and advanced visual field loss (n = 12). An overall statistically significant decrease in performance-related quality of life was noted in all groups of glaucoma patients, in early visual field loss overall visual performance decreased to 69.34%, moderate visual field loss to 56.67% and advanced visual field loss to 45.36%. A significant relationship was found between the scale questionnaire summary performance measure with binocular perimetric mean deviation (MD) values (r = –0.948 with p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). A measure of visual field loss was associated most strongly with dark adaptation and glare disability, (r = –0.914 and p = 0.000 (p < 0.05)). There is a significant relationship between the scale questionnaire summary performance measure with binocular perimetric mean deviation, which means there is a strong relationship between visual field loss in glaucoma patients with their quality oflife
