Abstract :

The presence of the GPIB Maranatha Church in the city of Surabaya was one of the churches that encouraged the expanding and increasing number of GPIB Surabaya Churches before the Surabaya GPIB Church was autonomized. The problem discussed in this study are how was the process of establishing GPIB Maranatha Surabaya Church in 1941-1961. The method used in this study is the historical method which includes heuristic processes, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The result of the research obtained were that in the period of 1941-1961 was sucessfully established GPIB Maranatha Surabaya Church after going through a long process that was colored by various dynamics of the pro-contra issues between the internal church and external parties namely the Surabaya City Government. With the sucessful establishment of the GPIB Maranatha Surabaya Church this had a positive impact, namely growing number of congregation and the widespread expansion of church services to areas especially in the East Java Region.      Hadirnya Gereja GPIB Maranatha di Kota Surabaya merupakan salah satu gereja yang mendorong semakin meluas dan bertambahnya Jemaat GPIB Surabaya sebelum Jemaat GPIB Surabaya diotonomisasikan. Permasalahan yang di bahas dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana proses pendirian Gereja GPIB Maranatha Surabaya tahun 1941-1961. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode sejarah meliputi proses heuristik, kritik, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa pada kurun waktu tahun 1941-1961 berhasil didirikan Gereja GPIB Maranatha Surabaya setelah melalui proses yang panjang yang diwarnai dengan berbagai dinamika permasalahan pro kontra antara pihak internal gereja maupun pihak eksternal yakni Pemerintah Kotapraja Surabaya. Dengan berhasil didirikannya Gereja GPIB Maranatha ini memberikan dampak yang positif yakni semakin berkembangnya jumlah jemaat dan semakin meluasnya pelayanan gereja ini sampai ke daerah-daerah khususnya di wilayah Jawa Timur.
