Abstract :
The aim of this research was to develop equation model as a tool for predicting infant’s birth weight. To achieve this goal, this research was carried out using cross sectional design, took place in rural areas in Trenggalek Regency, Province of East Java. Sample was parturients (postpartum women) with aterm pregnancy, and their babies. To predict birth weight, 3 linear regression equation models were developed. First, model with only mother’s weight gain as independent variable, second, model with mother’s weight gain and change of arm circumference as independent variables, and third, model with mother’s weight gain that had been corrected by the change of arm circumference size as independent variable. The result of the study showed that first model had determination coefficent 0.07899 or 7.899%, second model 0.10511 or 10.511% and third model 0.08337 or 8.337%. Based on the result, it could be concluded that the second model was the best model for predicting infant’s birth weight, and it meant that the use of change of arm circumference size could increase the precision of prediction
