Abstract :

ABSTRACT Maintenance is a harmful or a high-risk job for workers. The hazard faces by these workes are do to mechanical, physical and chemical factors. As regard controlling the risk effectively, a risk assessment is required to reduce the potential harms produced by the unsafe condition. The present study used observational descriptive method and applied cross-sectional approach. The primary data were collected from observation and interview, and the secondary data were gained from PT. X. The object of this reseach was maintenance work of machine in packaging unit. The interviewees were a safety officer and 4 maintenance workers. The collected data, then, was analyzed descriptively by providing table and compared to the applied theory and existing standard. The hazard identified by identification methods use by PT. X. The analysis of the data yielded that there were 23 hazard identified, out of the total number of risk assessment discovered in the data, 10 hazard were categorized as low-risk, and 13 hazard were categorized as intermediate risk. Furthermore, there have already had provided risk assessment, such as unloading the room, lighting the room, turning on the blower, fire equipment, first aid, education and training, safety meeting, rotate work shifting, the company policies, and supplying personal protection equipment. It is suggested that the company provide some controlling improvements, such as isolating proces of welding process, applying exhaust system, routine inspection, medical checking, housekeeping, and providing personal protective equipment, for instances respirator, earplug, and apron.
