Iron content (fe) at well water and health disorder in society alongside river of porong village tambak kalisogo, jabon sidoarjo

Abstract :

Groundwater is rain water or surface water that soaks into the ground. Groundwater contamination occurs when  hazardous substances met the groundwater. In America, 200–400  people were attacked by health disturbance such as heart cancer and diabetes because too much iron (Fe). According to water quality measurement, iron concentration in Lapindo  mud  was  22.416–25.434 mg/l and 1.69–3.12 mg/l in well water (threshold value = 0.3 mg/l).  Objective of this research was to learn about  iron content in drinking water from resident’s well aside  from impact  of Lapindo  mud and  society’s health  problem. Research was  using  observation and  cross-sectional design. Research was  done in Jabon  District. Well water and housewife were taken as sample. Data about respondent was done through  interview and questionnaire and well water was collected for laboratory essay. Result  of this research indicated the iron concentration in housewife’s well water was 0.074 ± 2.128 mg/l (threshold value = 0.3 mg/l). There are some health complaints with unknown cause from respondents there were  easy  to be  tired and fatigue  61.67%,  nausea 16.67%,  vomiting  16.67%, stomachache 50%, and diarrhea 76.67%. Conclusion from this research was keep distance from Lapindo  mudflow and lowering the Fe concentration in well water.   Keywords: blood  iron, housewife, iron in well water, well water
