Abstract :

 Type  of  seaweed  that  could  potentially  generate  alginate  is  the  class Phaeophyceae  (brown  algae).  Important  factor  affecting  growth  is  the environmental  factor. One  form of  common  pollution  is  detergents,  considering many  of  household  activities  using  detergent. The  purpose of  this  study was  to determine  the  growth,  alginate  and  chlorophyll  content of  Sargassum  sp. of  the contaminated  detergent  medium.  The  treatment  used  is  the  different  dose  of detergent, i.e.  treatment A (control), B (0.1 mg/l), C (0.2 mg/l), D (0.3 mg/l) and E (0.4 mg/l),  each  treatment was  replicate 4  times. The main parameters observed was  growth,  alginate  and  chlorophyll  content  of  Sargassum  sp.  Supporting parameters observed are temperature, salinity and pH of the culture medium. Data analysis  used was  Analysis  of Variance  (ANOVA)  and  to  know  the  difference between the treatments, Duncan Multiple Range Test was performed.   The results of  this study showed  that  the addition of detergent significantly affect  growth  in  4th  week  of  the  study  (p<0.05)  where  the  highest  growth  at treatment  A  (1.52±0.61  %)  and  lowest  in  treatment  E  (0.37±0.27  %).  In  the alginate content found any significant effect (p<0.05), which contained the highest content of alginate  in the  treatment A  (9.3684±4.79 %) and  lowest in treatment C (4.2821±0.34 %), D (4.1225±0.8 %) and E (3.3474±0.26 %). On chlorophyll a did not  reveal  any  significant  effect  (p>0.05),  whereas  in  final  chlorophyll  c1+c2 reveal any significant effect (p<0.05). The highest amount of chlorophyll present in treatment A (0.014679±0.0032) and lowest in treatment E (0.009827±0.0009).
