Abstract :
Aeromonas hydrophila is cause Motile Aeromonas Septicemia (MAS) or the disease known as red spots. A. hydrophila can attack the amphibious animals, mammals, and a variety of freshwater fish species including carp (Cyprinus carpio Linn.), salmon (Salmonidae), eel (Anguilla sp.), and catfish (Clarias sp. , Ictalurus sp.). In this study, tries to find an alternative use of antibacterial substances by using natural derived from medicinal plants. The observed antibacterial effects on the isolates containing of phenol, terpenoids, flavonoids, alkaloids and tannins. The purpose of this study was determined the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) from leaves extracts of patikan kebo (E. hirta) against A. hydrophila. The research was conducted on July – August 2011, at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Airlangga University and Laboratory of Organic Chemistry Faculty of Science and Technology Airlangga University. The method was used in this study is an experimental method, using completely randomized design with 11 treatments and three replications. Parameters observed in this study is the minimum concentration of leaves extracts of patikan kebo (E. hirta) that inhibits and minimum concentration of leaves extracts of patikan kebo (E. hirta) that kills A. hydrophila by using test concentrations in serial dilutions of 100 %; 10 %; 5 %; 2,5 %; 1,25 %; 0,625 %; 0,312 %; 0,156 %; 0,078 % and added suspensions A. hydrophila (3 x 106 CFU/ml). The observations were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANAVA). The resulst showed that leaves extracts of patikan kebo (E. hirta) has potential as an antibacterial against A. hydrophila invitro. Results of data analysis known that the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) from leaves extracts of patikan kebo (E. hirta) against A. hydrophila is a concentration 0,156 % and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) from leaves extracts of patikan kebo (E. hirta) against A. hydrophila is a concentration 0,312 %. In this study, recommends further to continue the research about mechanism of active substances in patikan kebo (E. hirta) ensure that could affect the growth of bacteria A. hydrophila and the use of leaves extracts of patikan kebo (E. hirta) against bacteria A. hydrophila invivo.
