The safety of snacks distributed around elementary schools in tabanan bali (based on the use of food coloring as food additive)

Abstract :

This research was aimed to study the using of coloring as food additive in the snacks which were distributed around elementary schools in Tabanan and Pupuan District. The other purpose of this research was to find factors related to snack producer’s practices on choosing type and dose of food coloring.This research was an observational descriptive study with cross sectional design. The samples were 13 snack producers who were suspected to use food coloring as food additive, which their snack were distributed around elementary schools in Tabanan and Pupuan district.The result of the research showed that most 54.84% type of food coloring was natural coloring material, 38.71 was synthetic food coloring, and 6,45% was unsafe coloring material, i.e Rhodamin B.Since food safety is a critical matter on health, food producers should be trained and educated well on producing safer and healthier food, including how to use and choose food additives.
