Profile of some blood chemistry parameters in crossbred ettawa goats

      Abstract :

      The study was aimed to study the influence of physiological status on blood chemistry parameters in Ettawa crossbred goats. Sixty clinically healthy Ettawa crossbred goats (5-8 months old young male goats, 5-8 months old young female goats, adult male goats, adult female goats, pregnant goats, lactating goats) were used. In each animal arterial and venous blood sampling were conducted on 08.00–10.00 AM before the morning feeding. Arterial blood was collected anaerobically for blood gas analyses, whereas serum was separated for some blood chemistry analyses (lipids, glucose,, BUN, creatinine, proteins). Analyses of variance were used to analyze the influence of physiological status on the blood chemistry parameters. The mean difference between the groups was analyzed by using Tukey HSD. P<0.05 was considered to be significantly different. The blood level of pH, bicarbonate, pCO2, BUN, creatinine, cholesterol, triglyceride, total protein, and glucose were comparable with other ruminant species. The albumin concentration of PE goat was lower than that in the literature stated values for other small ruminants. The blood level of pH, bicarbonate, pCO2, BUN, and glucose did not show any significant physiological status related changes (P>0.05). The total protein, globulin and creatinine concentrations in young animals were significantly lower than those in adult animals (P<0.05). The cholesterol concentration in female adult goats was significantly higher than those in male and young ones (P<0.05). It could be concluded that physiological status might modify metabolic status and level of some related blood parameters in indonesian PE goat.
