Rethinking of the sustainable development in surabaya

Abstract :

Development should not be considered as only in term of economics. It should also be considered in term of community development and ecological development. In terms of economy, development deals with market expansion, externalisation of fund, and private gains. In terms of community development, development deals with basic needs, equality, and community empowerment. In terms of ecology, it deals with the stability and sustainability of ecology. This paper focuses on a sustainable development in/of Surabaya. It considers six steps of building partnership of developemnt, and then suggests that the Surabaya development be based on five principles: environmental friendly, socially acceptable, economically feasible, politically stable, and culturally sensitive.
