Abstract :

Temefos’s larvacide from organophosphate insecticide group has been used in DHF endemie area in Mataram. The objective of this study was to determine temefos resistance status of Aedes sp. larvae in DHF endemic area as compared to the Aedes aegypti larvae in the colony of the Institute of Tropical Disease (ITD), Airlangga University, Surabaya, and to detect the increase of non-specific esterase enzyme in larvae resistance. This was non-experimental study using descriptive analytic design. The biochemical test was performed to detect the increase of non-specific esterase enzyme activity in the resistance of tested larvae against organophosphate insecticides, one of which is temefos. Materials and methods of the biochemical test referred to that of Lee (1990). The results of biochemical test have qualitatively with color score and quantitatively with Absorbance Value (AV) ELISA Reader indicated that the tested larvae from DHF endemic area in Mataram were 34.44% susceptible (SS), 35.56% tolerant and 30% resistant, while the tested larvae from the colony in ITD, Airlangga University, Surabaya, were 3.33% susceptible (SS), 26.67% tolerant (MR), and 70% resistant (RR) against organophosphate insecticide based on Lee’s empirical criteria (1990), as modified by Mardihusodo (2007). Statistical analysis of Oneway ANOVA,  continued with LSD test on the results of biochemical test of the tested larvae from three endemic villages in Mataram, the village of Tanjung Karang, Subdistrict Ampenan; the village Pagesangan, Subdistrict Mataram and the village Cakranegara Barat, Subdistrict Cakranegara, and tested larvae ITD, Airlangga University, Surabaya, had significant difference with p = 0.003.
