Abstract :

Kata kunci: abad ke-19, elit, Filipina, Jose Rizal, kolonialAbstractThis paper is a historical study on the process of formation of colonial society in the Philippine Islands since the days of Legazpi until the outbreak of the Philippine Revolution in 1896. Although the main emphasis is given to the 19th century, but what happened in the century will not be easily understood without knowing what had occurred in earlier times. Another focus of this study is the role of Jose Rizal. The method used is descriptive research that solves problems by collecting data, classifying, analyzing, and interpreting. Data sources were derived from secondary literature from text books that discuss Philippine in colonial period. To analyze the issues, the approach used is the historical changes in the socio-economic colony of the Philippines in the late 19th century. Focus will be given to the context and the process by looking at the emergence of colonial elite political and economic changes there. The result of the study shows that the colonial society in Phillipine before the 19th century was born not only from the society revolution, but also from relations with other parties in the society as the result of Spanish colonialization. Jose Rizal, who emerged when the society was formed, was aware that the emergence of revolution reflected the condition of colonial society in Phillipine. Rizal gave some contributions to the change, which path was not impossible for him to determine. The wave of the change in which Rizal was born and raised has never stopped. Keywords: colonial, elite, Jose Rizal, the Philippines
