Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the histopathological changes in testis of wistar rats after giving borax using different subchronic toxicity doses. The research has been done on July, 9th 2013-September, 29th 2013 at Department of Pathology Veterinary, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Airlangga. Twenty male rats (Rattus norvegicus strain Wistar) 45 days old with body weight 200 g were used. These animals were divided into four groups (P0, P1, P2, and P3). P0 were treated with sterile aquadest 0,5 ml/rats/day, P1 were treated with borax 19 mg/rats/day, P2 were treated with borax 26 mg/rats/day, and P3 were treated with borax 37 mg/rats/day. This research has been conducted for 14 days to determine the toxic effects of borax on the testis. The data were compared using ANOVA test and Duncan test. Statistical comparisons were performed using SPSS versi 20.0 for windows. The result showed that borax significantly caused decrease number of spermatogonium cells and sertoli cells on testical histopathology (p<0,05).
