Abstract :
Ranitidine is one of the drug of choice for the treatment of active duodenal ulcers gastric ulcers and Zollinger Ellison syndrome. The drug is absorbed only in the initial part of the small intestine. Colonic metabolism of ranitidine is also partly responsible for the poor bioavailability of ranitidine from the colon. All these factors highlight the need to develop a gastro retentive floating system as a sustained release dosage form. The tablets are prepared by wet granulated technique, using hydrophilic matrix polymers HPMC K100M, combined with mannitol , as a substance that increase the drug release, because HPMCK100M have a high viscosity and high retardant ability. The tablets were evaluated for in vitro release for 8 hours in 0,1 N HCl at 370 C. The result shows that mannitol increase ranitidine HCl release.
