Abstract :

A consortium of probiotic bacteria,  lactobacillus spp and water extract of guava leaf has an effect as imunomodulator. To increase the stability, probiotic and guava extract are encapsulated in a matrix. The micropaticles obtained from microencapsulatin process are reported have a good probiotic viability. Microencapsulation using HPMC  K100LV as a matrix. To develop the dosage form, the microparticles are formulated to be a tablet. The advantage of tablets are the dose can be given with more precision and ease of transportation. The microparticles   were compressed using direct compression method due to the wet granulation process will reduce the viability of the bacteria. Emcompress were used as a filler, with the amount of 0mg (F1), 45mg (F2), 95mg (F3) and 145 (F4),  because it is a strong compressibility filler (excellent compactibility). Viability measurement conducted using Total Plate Count (TPC) technique and Immunomodulatory Effect were examined  by Humoral antibody (HA) response using haemagglutination technique ( mice as an animal research). The result showed that increasing emcompress concentration will increase the viability and decrease the immunomodulatory effect.
