Pranayama’s yoga for reducing anxiety level of high school students with premenstrual syndrome

Abstract :

Introduction:   Anxiety   is   an   emotional   feeling   towards   an   unclear   object   and   experienced subjectively due to indication of premenstrual syndrome. Pranayama’s Yoga has proven to be one of  relaxation  techniques  to  overcome  anxiety  but  not  specific  in  students. The purpose  of  this research was to define the effect of pranayama’s yoga on anxiety level of   high school students with premenstrual syndrome. Method: Design used in this research was quasy experimental pre post test design. The  sampling  technique  was  purposive  sampling.  Twenty  two  samples  divided  into  two  groups, experimental  group  and  control  group.  Data  were  collected                          using      questionnaires  Strait  Trait Anxiety  Inventory  (STAI).  Data  then  analyzed  using the  Wilcoxon  Signed  Rank  Test  and  Mann Whitnney Test for ordinal data with level of significance α = 0.05. Result :The result showed  that  anxiety  level  in  the  experimental  group,  before  and  after  the  intervention,  had  a significant  change (p = 0.003), while in the control  group had no significant  change (p=0.210). Analysis  using  Mann  Whitney              showed  significant  differences  between  experimental  and  control groups      (p=0.000). Discussion: The               control                 of    breath,      the     mind,      and     stimulation        of parasympathetic  nerves  system  by  doing  pranayama’s  yoga  will  provide  relaxation  feeling  and lead  to  lower  anxiety  level  concluded  that  pranayama’s  yoga  can  decreased   anxiety  level  in students with premenstrual syndrome.
