Abstract :

Background           : Having an attractive face is the desire of many women. Nose is a part of the face that determines attractiveness. Many Indonesian women do cosmetic rhinoplasty to make their face more atractive. Presently many plastic surgeons still refer to Caucasian nose profile because there are limited data on the Indonesian nasal profile. Purpose : This study aims to obtain basic nasal anthropometric values of Indonesian attractive women as part of the standard measurments of the Indonesian women facial profile. Methode                : This study is a descriptive study. We distributed questionnairs to the population to determine criteria of attractiveness. Twenty-one young Indonesian women were selected who met the inclusion criteria of our study. We measured 16 variables by direct anthropometry measurment. Data were analyzed descriptively with statistic univariate test to get mean values, standard deviation, and minimum-maximum values. We used Kolmogorov-Smirnov test to determine the distribution of data. Normally distributed data were compered with results from previous study on Indonesian women’s face profile using Indepentent Sample-t test. While, Mann-Whitney-t test was used for data that were not normally distributed.   Result                    : Based on that results of the questionnaire, nose was listed as the most important facial structure determining atractiveness. 76.19% of  the subjects were Javanese. There were six variables which were significantly different between atractive women and normal women. Atractive women had smaller Columella width, right and left radix slopes (en-m’), and columella length and greater left ala nasion thickness and left ala nasion length than normal women. However generally nose width (al-al) of both Indonesian attractive women and normal women more than a quarter of the face width (zy-zy) and greater than the interchantal distance (en-en). From nasal index, we could categorize the Indonesian women nose into meshorhine type.      Conclusion           : Size and shape of the Indonesian women nose differed from those of other races, including Caucasian women and there were significant differences between the normal and atractive Indonesian women.
